When a reputable magazine like Money Magazine recognizes a community to be one of the best places to live in in the country not once, but twice, that’s when you know that you have something special. And Summerlin is a community that has earned that trust.
Money Magazine has named Summerlin as “chief community” in 2002 and it again received recognition in 2014 as one of America’s Best Places to Live. The issue highlighted Summerlin’s best features like world class golf courses, playgrounds, hundreds of trails, tennis courts, and proximity to a vast array of activities. And as an added bonus, UNLV economics professor Stephen Brown said, “It’s about five degrees cooler on the west side.” At the height of the hot Las Vegas summers, those five degrees can really make a difference!
In 2002, Money Magazine considered median family income, median home price, and five-year job growth to come up with the list of big cities with value. Here’s a snip: “New Urbanist layering of residential, commercial and civic features. The result: a pleasant neighborhood that keeps property values up.”
Another recognition Summerlin received in 2002 was given by the Urban Land Institute for Community of the Year. In 2007, the National Geographic Adventure applauded Summerlin and named it the best place to live because it centers on an active lifestyle.
Summerlin Among Money Magazine’s List of Big Cities Offering Value
Last year, Las Vegas is once again included in the Money Magazine’s 2014 list of big cities offering value. It’s the latest recognition to the already multi-awarded master-planned community. Danielle BIsterfeldt, marketing director for Summerlin, said, “Downtown Summerlin, the community’s new 400-acre urban center, stands as the ultimate model of New Urbanism, bringing significant fashion/dining/entertainment amenities and live/work opportunities to the community in a walkable, thoughtful and integrated way.” She added, “And thanks to the value of master planning, Summerlin has continued to maintain it’s appeal and value- even through the Great Recession.”
Other Awards and Recognition received by Summerlin:
2008 – received American Trails Developer Award. (First time this award was given to a private developer)
2012 – The National Building Museum featured it as a model U.S. community.
And as Summerlin continues to gain media recognition, it becomes more alluring to homebuyers because it’s turning Vegas into an ideal place to live in and raise a family.
